This year is dedicated to grad school courses, my dissertation proposal, and experiments. I will have to take 6 grad school courses this semester which means a lot of work and writing. In addition, I will have to hand in my final dissertation proposal by June 1st, 2009.
Also, I would like to attend a summer school and a conference this year. I still have figure out which ones though. Any suggestions?
Thus, things will keep me pretty busy!

Title of the talk: The lag effect and underlying cognitive processes
Im Rahmen meiner Dissertation findet vom 06. Oktober bis 17. Oktober 2008 eine Studie statt, die den Einfluss von Lern-Zeitplänen auf die Gedächtnisleistung untersucht.
Die Studie dauert 35 oder 65 Minuten, die auf 2 Sitzungen aufgeteilt werden. Personen erhalten für ihre Teilnahme 45 oder 75 Versuchspersonenminuten und Schokolade oder eine Aufwandsentschädigung in Höhe von 3,50 € oder 6,50 €. Die Studie wird in L13, 15 im 1. Stock an den oben genannten Tagen stattfinden.
Wenn Sie Interesse haben an der Studie teilzunehmen, können Sie mich gerne kontaktieren. Voraussetzungen für die Teilnahme an der Studie sind, dass Sie zwischen 18 und 35 Jahre alt sind und Deutsch Ihre Muttersprache ist.

I will run a study for my dissertation project from October 9 to October 17, 2008. The study will investigate the influence of learning schedules on memory performance.
The study will take 35 or 65 minutes and will involve 2 sessions. Participants will receive psychology course credits and chocolate or money (3,50 € or 6,50 €) as compensation. The study will be conducted in L13, 15 (1. floor).

I found a good nonverbal task for retention intervals. It is a puzzle called picross.
The goal of the puzzle is to complete a picture by filling out boxes in a matrix. Numbers in the columns and rows of the matrix indicate the numbers of boxes that have to be filled out. Each number indicates how many consecutive filled boxes there are on a row or column. The combination of the numbers in the row and columns lead to one solution that results in a picture.
This puzzle is a perfect alternative to Sudoku and can easily be employed in experiments.

I have been accepted to the CDSS at the University of Mannheim. Doctoral studies will start in September and a full one-year scholarship will be provided. I will take several classes on research methods and English presentation and writing skills. All courses in this program are held in English. In addition to the regular courses, there will be the possibility to earn credits by attending related workshops.
